San Francisco Paramedic Association
The San Francisco Paramedic Association (SFPA) was formed in 1986 by a group of paramedics who held the notion that death and disability from serious injuries and illnesses could be reduced through education, outreach and advocacy.
The founding members immediately put this belief into practice by working with other stakeholders in San Francisco’s healthcare system to help transform that city’s ambulance service into a state of the art Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provider.
The SFPA’s training programs are unique in that all classes involve instructors who are experienced healthcare providers. The combination of instructors’ hands-on experience and academic expertise provides students with reality-based training about critical emergency situations. We have also volunteered to teach several hundred adults and students lifesaving skills at no charge.
